Arbit Stats #48: 1009 Not Out

1009 - That is the number of runs scored by young Pranav Dhanawade in an inter-school tournament in Mumbai.
This is the now the highest individual score in any form of cricket records breaking AEJ Collins' 628 not out for Clark’s House against North Town in Clifton College scored in 1899.  The runs certainly came at a quick pace of just 323 balls laced with 129 fours and 59 sixes. truly mind-boggling numbers.

Hopefully it is just the start of an amazing cricketing journey for this young talent.

Arbit Stats - 24

Alauddin Babu of Bangladesh is now the unfortunate owner of the record for the most runs conceded in a single over in List A cricket. Playing for Abahani Limited against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Limited in the Dhaka Premier League, he conceded 39 runs in a single over, thus shattering Daan Van Bunge's record of 36 runs (which still is the record for ODIs).

Sequence of events, as follows
  • Ball 1 - No Ball, Boundary [Total - 5 runs, 0 Balls]
  • Ball 2 - Wide [Total - 6 runs, 0 Balls]
  • Ball 3 - Six [Total - 12 runs, 1 Ball]
  • Ball 4 - Boundary [Total - 16 runs, 2 Balls]
  • Ball 5 - Six [Total - 22 runs, 3 Balls]
  • Ball 6 - Boundary [Total - 26 runs, 4 Balls]
  • Ball 7 - Six [Total - 32 runs, 5 Balls]
  • Ball 8 - Wide [Total - 33 runs, 5 Balls]
  • Ball 9 - Six [Total - 39 runs, Over Complete]
And the batsman who was at the receiving end of these pleasantries - Elton Chigumbura, the former Zimbabwean captain.

Enough information for any trivia contest.

The Phantom's 100th Test Run

It might have taken 60 Test matches and 87 innings but its a milestone no less. Chris Martin, the legendary New Zealand batsman has finally reached 100 Test runs. Martin took a 3 off Umar Gul in the Kiwi 2nd innings against Pakistan to move from 97 to 100 career runs in test cricket. And then promptly celebrated it by hitting a boundary. Now this might be some record which will probably go on for ever. Here is the legendary video on "How to bat like Chris Martin".

The Wall - 200 Catches

India vs South Africa, 2nd Day's Play, Durban
Rahul Dravid dives to his left at 1st slip to take the catch of Dale Steyn off the bowling of Harbhajan Singh to become the 1st non wicketkeeper ever to take 200 catches. A truly awesome achievement to say the least. And his reaction to the catch summed it all up.

In the mean time, the match keeps swinging like pendulum. India can be said to be marginally ahead at the moment though.
